| Abstract/Description: | Indian agriculture has made impressive strides in food grain production. However, the combined impact of population increase, industrial expansion and exploitative agriculture causing degradation of our soil resource base, poses a serious challenge to our ability to do so in future. The problem is further compounded by the rising cost of fertilizers, limited land resources, chronic water shortages, low input use efficiency and concern for sustainability of high productivity without detriment to environment. |
