| Abstract/Description: | THE INVESTIGATION WAS UNDERTAKEN TO EVALUATE THE ASSOCIATION OF SEED YIELD OF COWPEA WITH ITS COMPONENTS. THE CORRELATION COEFFICIENTS WHICH HAD POSITIVE ASSOCIATION WITH SEED YIELD/ PLANT WERE APPLIED TOW WORK OUT PATH- COEFFICIENT ANALYSIS AS PER THE PROCEDURE OF DEWEY AND LU ( 1959) . IT WAS REVEALED THAT GENOTYPIC CORRELATION BETWEEN SEED YIELD AND YIELD CONTRIBUTING CHARACTERS WERE HIGHER THAN THE PHENOTYPIC ONES. BRANCHES/ PLANT AND SEEDS / POD SHOWED HIGHLY SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE CORRELATION WITH SEED YIELD . PLANT HEIGHT AND DAYS TO MATURITY ALSO SHOWED POSITIVE BUT NON- SIGNIFICANT ASSOCIATION WITH YIELD. THE 1000 SEED WEIGHT HAD NON- SIGNIFICANT NEGATIVE CORRELATION WITH YIELD. BUT FOR BRANCHES/ PLANT AND SEEDS / POD THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE CORRELATION AMONG THE CHARACTERS OTHER THAN YIELD. |
