| Abstract/Description: | GREENGRAM, BLACKGRAM AND COWPEA EACH FOLLOWED BY SAFFLOWER , MUSTARD , TARAMIRA AND GRAM IN DOUBLE CROPPING SEQUENCES WERE STUDIED FROM 1978- 79 TO 1981-82 . SORGHUM+ PIGEONPEA INTERCROPPING(1;1) WAS INCLUDED FOR COMPARISON. GREENGRAM- SAFFLOWER SEQUENCE WAS SUPERIOR OVER FOUR SEASONS PRODUCING 12.6 q/ha FOLLOWED BY GREENGRAM- TARAMIRA (10.5 q/ha) . GREENGRAM SEQUENCES WERE SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER IN ENERGY VALUE OF GRAIN YIELD (3.42 TO 4.40 MILLION K calories /ha) THAN OTHER DOUBLE CROPPING SEQUENCES AND WERE AT PAR WITH SORGHUM+ PIGEONPEA INTERCROPPING (4.36 MILLION K calories/ha) . RAINFALL PRODUCTIVITY OF GREENGRAM - SAFFLOWER SEQUENCE (12.0 kg grain /cm RAINS) WAS HIGHER THAN OTHER DOUBLE CROPPING SEQUENCES (5 TO 15 kg grain/cm) AND COMPARABLE TO SORGHUM + PIGEONPEA ( 19 kg grain/cm rains) . BLACKGRAM AND GREENGRAM PROVIDED MAXIMUM CANOPY COVER (80 TO 79%) FOLLOWED BY COWPEA (76%) AND SORGHUM + PIGEONPEA (68%) 45 DAYS AFTER SOWING. |
