| Abstract/Description: | IN A VIEW OF THE FACT THAT BLUE LUPIN ( LUPINUS AUNGSTIFOLIUS) IS BEING COMMONLY CULTIVATED IN THE NILGIRIS FOR GREEN MANURES , OTHER SPECIES OF LUPINS VIZ WHITE LUPIN ( LUPINUS ALBUS) AND SPOTTED LUPIN ( LUPINUS DEGITTATUS) WERE TRIED IN NURSERY. COMPARATIVE DATA ON THREE VARIETIES OF LUPIN WAS COLLECTED PERIODICALLY FROM 1960 ONWARDS. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT ALL THE THREE LUPINS WERE FOUND TO BE PROMISING UNDER THE NILGIRIS CLIMATIC CONDITIONS. IN THE AREAS WHERE THE MAIN CROP OF POTATO IS TAKEN YEAR AFTER YEAR AND LUPIN IS TAKEN AS SECOND CROP , THE ROOTING OF BLUE LUPIN AND SPOTTED LUPIN WAS NOT SATISFACTORY WHILE THAT OF WHITE LUPIN IS GOOD. WHITE LUPIN CAN BE SUCCESSFULLY UTILIZED AS IT IS READY FOR BURRYING WITHIN 31 DAYS. |
