| Abstract/Description: | A DETAILED ACCOUNT OF GRASS COVERS OF THE GARHWAL REGION IN WEST HIMALAYAS HAS BEEN GIVEN AND DISCUSSED UNDER SUBMONTANE , MONTANE, ALTIMONTANE AND ALPINE ZONES. HETEROPOGON CONTORTUS AND ARUNDINELLA TYPES OF COVERS IN SUBMONTANE , THEMEDA CHRYSOPOGON GRYLLUS, POA PRATENSIS AND KOELORIA CRISTATA TYPES IN MONTANE AND DANTHONIA , PHLEUM , AGROSTIS TYPES ARE INCLUDED IN ALTIMONTANE AND ALPINE TYPES. SOME OF THE GRASS COMMUNITIES AND ALPINE TYPES RECORDED FROM THE AREA ARE DESCRIBED ALONG WITH THEIR ALTITUDINAL DISTRIBUTION AND PARALLELISM WITH DIFFERENT FOREST TYPES. |
