| Abstract/Description: | RESULTS OF A FLORISTIC STUDY CARRIED OUT AT CHHALESAR (AGRA) IN YAMUNA RAVINES ARE DISCUSSED. IN ALL 202 SPECIES BELONGING TO 43 FAMILIES AND 147 GENERA HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED SO FAR. THE GRAMINEAE WITH 41 SPECIES IS THE LARGEST FAMILY FOLLOWED BY LEGUMINOCEAE (35). NEARLY 48 SPECIES ARE USABLE FOR AS MANY AS 51 THERAPEUTIC PURPOSE SUCH AS ABORTIFACIENTS , ANTITIABETIES EXPERCTORANTS ETC . SOME OF THE TOP MEDICINAL SPECIES ARE MORINGA OLEFERA, CALOTROPIS PROCERA, AZADIRACHTA INDICA, OCIMUM BASILICUM, ACACIA NILOTICA , ASPARAGUS RACEMOSUS AND SALVADORA PERSICA. THE FLORA IS EQUALLY RICH IN GENERAL UTILITIES LIKE FOOD, FUEL , FODDER , FIBRE , TIMBER, AROMATICS , DYES, TANS, PAPER, PULP, BEVERAGES, GLUCOSIDES , GUMS ETC. AND PLAYS POSITIVE ROLE IN LAND- RESOURCE CONSERVATION. |
