| Abstract/Description: | DEALS WITH THE INFORMATION ON THE NUTRIENT ACCUMULATION TRENDS IN STANDING TREES OF FOUR SPECIES WHICH WERE RAISED ON VERTIC INCEPTISOLS. NITROGEN CONCENTRATIONS WERE MORE IN THE LEAVES AND BARK OF ALL SPECIES , WITH LEGUMINOUS SPECIES LIKE LEUCAENA LEUCOCEPHALA AND ACACIA NILOTICA HAVING THE HIGHEST CONCENTRATIONS. THE IMPACT OF WHOLE TREE HARVESTING ON THE DEPLETION OF NUTRIENTS FROM THE SOIL POOL HAS BEEN DESCRIBED WITH EMPHASIS ON SHORT ROTATION PRACTICES, HARVESTING FOLIAGE, DEBARKING TREES AND LEAVING BOTH THE MATERIAL AT THE SITE POTENTIAL VALUE IN MAINTAINING SOIL NUTRIENT POOLS FOR FUTURE PLANTATIONS. |
