| Abstract/Description: | THE REASONS OF MAL FUNCTIONING OF GULLY CONTROL STRUCTURES CONSTRUCTED IN THE OUTER HIMALAYAS HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED AND REPORTED. IT IS FOUND THAT MAIN CAUSE FOR FAILURE OF THESE STRUCTURES IS THE NON PROVISION OF BASIC COMPONENTS SUCH AS SPILLWAY , HEAD WALL, EXTENSION, APRON ETC. IN ADDITION TO IMPROPER SELECTION OF SITE . IT APPEARS THAT PEAK RATES OF RUNOFF FOR THESE WATERSHEDS HAVE ALSO NOT BEEN TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION FOR THEIR DESIGN. SUITABLE DESIGN DETAILS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED. |
