| Abstract/Description: | AMONG TWELVE PROMISING SPECIES OF GRASSES TRIED AT VASAD DURING 1958-59 AND 1959-60, DICHANTHIUM ANNULATUM , AMPHILOPHIS GLABRA AND ANDROPOGON ISCHAEMUN WERE FOUND SUPERIOR AS SOIL BINDERS ON ACCOUNT OF THEIR ELABORATE ROOT SYSTEM, EXCELLENT GROUND COVER AND GOOD YIELDS OF FODDER, CENCHRUS CILIARIS ( RHIZOMIFEROUS STRAIN) WAS ALSO FOUND GOOD FOR SOIL BINDING CAPACITY. PANICUM REPENS AND PANICUM ANTIDOTALE BOTH EXHIBITED EXCELLENT NETWORK OF ROOT SYSTEM BUT DID NOT PRODUCE GOOD GROUND COVER WHILE AMPHILOPHIS ADORATA PRODUCED POOR ROOT SYSTEM BUT GOOD GROUND COVER AND FODDER YIELDS. |
