| Abstract/Description: | DESCRIBES A NEW METHOD OF ESTIMATE THE ANNUAL TRANSPIRATION LOSS FROM A PLANTATION OF BLUEGUM IN THE NILGIRIS. THE VALUE IS 3475 TONNES/HA OF PLANTATION, WHICH WORKS OUT TO 3475CM OUT OF A TOTAL RAINFALL OF ABOUT 130CM. THE TRANSPIRATION RATIO WORKS OUT TO 1:235 . IT HAS BEEN INDICATED THAT AFFORESTATION OF THE HIGHLAND WATERSHEDS WILL NOT MUCH ADVERSELY AFFECT THE WATER YIELD TO THE EXISTING RESERVOIRS IN THIS REGION. |
