| Abstract/Description: | THE AUTHORS GIVE AN ACCOUNT OF THE TORRENT PROBLEMS PERTAINING TO DOON VALLEY, THE DAMAGE DONE AND ALSO THE MEASURES FOR BANK PROTECTION EVOLVED BY CSWCRTI, DEHRADUN . CLASSIFICATION AND CHARACTERISTICS OF TORRENT TYPES HAVE BEEN GIVEN. THE PHYSICAL PROCESSES INVOLVED IN CHANNEL DEGRADATION AND BANK CUTTING ARE BRIEFLY BROUGHT OUT. EXCESS SEDIMENT IS THE MAJOR PROBLEM AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FREQUENT CHANNEL SHIFTING AND INDUCING MEANDERS IN SAHARANPUR AND DEHRADUN DISTRICTS. THE PERFORMANCE OF VARIOUS BANK AND BED CONTROL MEASURES AS APPLIED TO A TORRENT IN DOON VALLEY HAS BEEN DISCUSSED. |
