| Abstract/Description: | SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES CARRIED OUT IN THE SUKHOMAJRI WATERSHED NEAR CHANDIGARH HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED. THE SURPLUS RAIN WATER FROM THE HILLS , COLLECTED BEHIND AN EARTHEN DAM AND GIVEN FOR LIMITED IRRIGATION TO THE FARMERS , INCREASED CROP YIELDS MANIFOLD. THE VILLAGE IS NOW NOT ONLY SELF- SUFFICIENT IN FOOD FODDER, FUEL AND MILK BUT IS ALSO HAVING SURPLUS TO SELL OUTSIDE FOR ADDITIONAL INCOME. THE OBJECTIVES , FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SOCIETY HAVE BEEN OUTLINED IN THE PAPER. |
