Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof789mminthePillahallisub-watershedasrecordedfromtheChellurstationdata. 54%,29%and17%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis47mmforanaverageannualrainfallof740mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris38mm(70%of55mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(241mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis326(=241+47+38) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis580mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas725mm(i.e.125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby399mm,i.e.(725-326).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis97%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisslightlylessopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinPillahalliSub-watershedasperLRIdatais136(133-Borewellsand3-Openwells).ThegroundwaterlevelshownaboveisfromthedataobtainedfromDept.ofMines&GeologyfortheneareststationSangenahalli. |
