| Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof665mmintheHosursub-watershedasrecordedfromtheKarajgistationdatabyKSNDMC. 72%,17%and11%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis43mmforanaverageannualrainfallof760mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris33mm(70%of47mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(215mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis291(=215+33+43) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis532mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas665mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby374mm,i.e.(665-291).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly60%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinHosurSub-watershedasperLRIdataare25(21Borewellsand4Openwells).ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationMannur.Deepestlevelwasfoundin2014year. |
