| Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof759mmintheMulkodsub-watershedasrecordedfromtheKalgistationdatabyKSNDMC. 73%,12%and15%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis24mmforanaverageannualrainfallof778mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris37mm(70%of53mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(130mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis191(=130+37+24) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis519mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas649mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby458mm,i.e.(649-191).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis61%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationGundgurthi.Thegroundwaterlevelsduringtheyears2008-2017wasslightlyvaryingexceptMay2016. |
