Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof759mmintheMattimadusub-watershedasrecordedfromtheGundgurthistationdatabyKSNDMC. 75%,13%and12%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisinsustainablelimit. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis2mmforanaverageannualrainfallof855mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris37mm(70%of53mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(191mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis230(=191+37+2) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis514mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas642mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby412mm,i.e.(642-230).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis49%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationGundgurthi.Thegroundwaterlevelsduringtheyears2008-2017wasslightlyvaryingexceptMay2016. |
