| Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof887mmintheMothakapallisub-watershedasrecordedfromtheGurmatkalstationdata. 75%,14%and11%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisinsustainablecondition. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis16mmforanaverageannualrainfallof919mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(208mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis274(=208+16+50) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis531mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas664mm(i.e.125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby390mm,i.e.(664-274).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly47%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinMothakapalliSub-watershedasperLRIdatais15wells(14Borewells&1openwell).ThegroundwaterlevelshownaboveisfromthedataobtainedfromDept.ofMines&GeologyfortheneareststationGunjnoorCross.Thegraphdepictsthegroundwaterlevelduringtheyears2008-2017wereslightlyvarying,whereasduringtheyear2014wasfoundconstant. |
