| Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof631mmintheKinhalusub-watershedasrecordedfromtheKoppalstationdatabyKSNDMC. 65%,20%and15%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceissustainable.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesareappropriateandneednotbealtered. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis57mmforanaverageannualrainfallof596mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris31mm(70%of44mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(241mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis329(=241+31+57) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis543mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas679mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby350mm,i.e.(679-329).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis78%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinKinhaluSub-watershedasperLRIdataare11(Borewells).ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationHonnahunsi.Deepestlevelswerefoundin2008. |
