| Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof631mmintheKatagihallisub-watershedasrecordedfromtheHulihaiderstationdatabyKSNDMC. 68percent,18percentand14percentoftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis3mmforanaverageannualrainfallof540mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris31mm(70%of44mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(158mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis192(=158+31+3) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis490mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas612mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby420mm,i.e.(612-192).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis82%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinKatagihalliSub-watershedasperLRIdataare4(Borewells).ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationHulihyder.Deepestlevelswerefoundduringtheyear2017. |
