Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof887mmintheYadgirRFsub-watershedasrecordedfromtheHattikunistationdata. 80%,12%and8%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis55mmforanaverageannualrainfallof830mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(115mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis220(=115+55+50) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis558mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas698mm(i.e.125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby477mm,i.e.(698-220).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly51%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThegroundwaterleveldataobtainedfromDept.ofMines&GeologyfortheneareststationBalichakra.Thegroundwaterlevelduringtheyears2010-2017wereslightlyvarying,whereasduringtheyear2014wasfoundconstant. |
