| Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof887mmintheThanagundasub-watershedasrecordedfromtheBalichakrastationdata. 80%,12%and8%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisinsustainablecondition. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis31mmforanaverageannualrainfallof830mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(224mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis305(=224+31+50) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis514mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas642mm(i.e.125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby337mm,i.e.(642-305).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly47%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinThanagundaSub-watershedasperLRIdatais41wells(38Borewells&3openwell).ThegroundwaterleveldataobtainedfromDept.ofMines&GeologyfortheneareststationGunjnoorCross.Thegroundwaterlevelduring2011-2017wereslightlyvarying,whereasduringtheyear2014wasfoundconstant. |
