| Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof631mmintheBhagyanagarsub-watershedasrecordedfromtheKoppalstationdatabyKSNDMC. 65%,20%and15%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesareinappropriateandneededtobealtered. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis67mmforanaverageannualrainfallof596mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris31mm(70%of44mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(164mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis262(=164+31+67) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis519mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas649mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby387mm,i.e.(649-262).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly74%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinBhagyanagarSub-watershedasperLRIdataare221(216-Borewellsand5-Openwells).ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationHireshindhogi.Deepestlevelwasfoundin2009year |
