Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof631mmintheChukkanakallusub-watershedasrecordedfromtheKoppalstationdatabyKSNDMC. 65percent,20percentand15percentoftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandSummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. TheevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatedthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisabouttocrosssustainablelimitasaverageETalmostapproachedtheaverageannualrainfall. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis58mmforanaverageannualrainfallof596mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris145mm(70%of207mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(0mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis203(=145+58+0) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis541mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas676mm(i.e.125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby473mm,i.e.(676-203).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis70%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisslightlylessopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinChukkanakalluSub-watershedasperLRIdatais161.Theabovegraphdepictsthegroundwaterlevelsduringtheyears2008-2009wasdeclinedwhereasgroundwaterlevelsin2010-2016wasincreasedandgraduallydecreasedin2017. |
