Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof887mmintheRachanahallisub-watershedasrecordedfromtheSydhapurastationdatabyKSNDMC. 77percent,15percentand8percentoftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis126mmforanannualrainfallof776mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(220mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis395.7(=126+220+49.7)i.e.approximately396mm. TheaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesfortheKharifandRabiseasonsis490mm.HencetheamountofwateruseforKharifandRabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas612.5mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsismarginallyhigherby217mm,i.e.(612.5-396).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsis55%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisgoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinRachanahalliSub-watershedasperLRIdatais74(60-Borewells&14-Openwells).GroundwaterlevelswasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationofsaidhapur.Deepestlevelswerefoundin2010. |
