| Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof887mmintheChikkaAlursub-watershedasrecordedfromtheNalwarstationdata. 76%,13%and10%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesarenotappropriateandneedtobealteredtoshiftthedeficitwaterbalance. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis64mmforanaverageannualrainfallof823mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris49.7mm(70%of71mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(86mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis200(=64+86+50) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis556mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas695mm(i.e.125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby495mm,i.e.(695-200).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsisonly55%ofrainfall.Hence,thereisagoodopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason.
