Abstract/Description: | This paper presents the results of a study conducted during kharif, 2016 in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, to elucidate information on genetic and phenotypic variability, heritability and genetic advance in promising rice genotypes under variable soil P condition. A total of 55 elite rice genotypes were sown under three different soil P levels, i.e. 20, 40 and 60 kg P O /ha. Data were recorded on days to 50% flowering, plant height, total tillers per plant, productive tillers per plant, spikelet fertility, 1000-seed weight and yield per plant. The traits plant height, days to 50% flowering, spikelet fertility and yield have high heritability along with genetic advance as percentage of mean, indicating that these characters are attributable to additive gene effects which are fixable. This shows that improvement in these characters would be possible through direct selection. |
