Abstract/Description: | This research paper deals with the assessment of the research output of the researchers in marine fisheries and identification of the associated variables. The research output was measured in terms of number of research articles/ extension literature published. The study was conducted among a sample of 72 researchers from two fisheries research institutions in India. The results revealed that on an average, each researcher has generated 4.88 technologies and published 42.31 articles in their total professional experience of 18.66 years. The overall communication behaviour index was 68.48% with the standard deviation of 13.82%. Among the 13 variables studied, the variables viz., age, educational qualification, professional experience, annual income, time utilization in research, communication behaviour and technologies generated showed positive and significant relationship with the research output. A perusal of the regression coefficients revealed that out of the 13 variables, only four variables viz., professional experience, time utilization in research, communication behaviour and technologies generated had contributed significantly towards the research output. The R2 value indicated that all the variables taken together served as cause for explaining 55.80 percent of variation in the research output. The highly significant ‘F’ value revealed the overall significance of the regression at one percent level of probability. The major constraints in the technology development process that could affect the research output and suggestions for improvement were listed. |
