dc.description.abstract | Among all the biocontrol treatments tested in glasshouse condition in sick soil, A. niger-V was found highly antagonistic and completely checked the foliage yellowing, wilt incidence and vascular browning (Table 2). It was followed by A. niger-V + B. subtilis and A. niger-V + P. fluorescens where neither foliage yellowing nor wilt incidence was observed. However, minimum vascular browning with lowest mean rating scale (0.33) waswas better than higher concentration (50 ppm). The complete inhibitory effect of SA (5-25 ppm) on wilt incidence was consistently maintained from 7 days to 21 days and it may be due to systemic acquired resistance. The higher dose (50 ppm) of SA was not effective to reduce wilt incidence rather toxic to the plants. Root bacterization with an antagonistic rhzospheric microorganism (P. fluorescens) reveled that as the inoculum concentration of P. fluorescens increased from 106 to 1010 cfu/ml, the potentiality also increased to control Fusarium wilt of tomato. The wilt incidence was cent percent checked at 1×109 and 1×1010 cfu/ml concentration of P. fluorescens after 21 days of treatment (Table 3). The higher dose was more effective at 28 days of incubation as the wilt incidence was only 30% with 1×1010 cfu/ml while 50% with 1×109 cfu/ml concentration. The increased activity of phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), peroxidase (PO), poly phenyl oxidase (PPO), phenolics, chitinase and ß 1-3 glucanase reported in tomato plants bacterized with P. fluorescens isolate PF1 and prevented the establishment of F. oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici (6). The maximum induced systemic resistance by P. fluorescens may be at the concentration of 1010 cfu/ml for the management of Fusarium wilt of tomato. | en_US |
