| Abstract/Description: | A field investigation was carried out to study the effect of different doses of a Sulfonyl urea herbicide on weed growth and yield of rice crop. There was a significant reduction in weed count and weed dry weight throughout the growth stages of rice crop due to pre-emergence application of Classic-25WP. Hand weeding twice at 20 and 40 DAT showed the maximum grain yield (32.39 q/hectare) of rice crop which was statistically at par with the chemical treatment Classic-25 WP at 4 g a.i./hectare as pre-emergence application. Among the different doses of Classic-25 WP, Classic 25-WP at 4 g a.i./hectare as pre-emergence showed the best performance in reducing both weed count and weed dry weight giving a statistically similar result with hand weeding twice. Higher doses of classic-25 WP of 6 and 8 g a.i./hectare as pre-emergence failed to give satisfactory yield as they inhibited the tiller formation in the crop plants. |
