Abstract/Description: | The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of season on quality and freezability of Tharparkar bull semen. A total of 60 semen ejaculates (30 winter and 30 summer) of Tharparkar bulls were collected. Physico-morphological characteristics of semen viz. volume (ml), mass activity (0-5 scale), progressive motility (%), sperm concentration (million/ ml), sperm livability (%), HOST (%), sperm abnormal morphology (%) and acrosomal integrity (%) were estimated at different stage in the different seasons. The volume of ejaculate was significantly (p<0.01) higher in summer than winter season. HOST positive spermatozoa were significantly (p<0.01) higher in winter than summer season at fresh stage. Acrosomal integrity was significantly (p<0.05) higher in summer than winter season at both pre-freeze and post-thaw stage. In general, Tharparkar bulls’ semen has better freezability. The study generated basic information regarding physicomorphological characteristic of Tharparkar bull semen in two different seasons. However, no significant effect of season was observed on these seminal attributes and its freezability in Tharparkar bull semen. |
