Abstract/Description: | Twenty eight safflower cultivars were evaluated in laboratory for tolerance to water stress for germination and early seedling growth by subjecting them to different levels (0.0, -0.2, -OA, -0.6, -0.8, -1.0, and -1.2 MPa) of stress using PEG 6000. Cultivars behaved similar to control in -0.2 MPa and no germination was observed at -1.2 MPa stress. With increasing stress level, germination decreased, time taken for germination increased and radicle and hypocotyl length reduced. Test weight showed significant positive correlation with tolerance. Cultivars were grouped into tolerant, moderately tolerant and susceptible based on the index developed. |
