Abstract/Description: | Integrated farming system (IFS) is a sustainable model of farming which integrates different farming components like livestock, aquaculture and horticulture for efficient resource utilization and improved cost effectiveness. IFS uses the natural farming approach and works with the concept of “zero waste” or “model of circular economy”. IFS is a self-reliant system in which the waste generated in one system becomes the input for other farming components. Integrated farming is considered as a sustainable agriculture method for the future since it produces good quality organic food products through natural farming process. Application of integrated farming principles in to aquaculture can sustainably increase the profitability of small and marginal farmers. It is the way forward in the aquaculture sector as our nation aims for doubling of farmers income and attaining nutritional security. |
