| Abstract/Description: | Shrimp farming in India gained momentum with the inccption of Brackishwater Fish Farmers Dcvelopmcnt Agcncics by the State Govcrnmenls. India, though a newcomer to this enterprise on a commercial basis, has steadily picked up and now stands fifth among tlic major producing countries. Indian shrimp production is growing and would probably achicvc the goal of onc lakh tonnes from one lakh hcch~rcs by 2000 AD against the present production of 45,000 tonncs from 70,000 hcctares. Andhra Pradesh has taken the lcad among tlic maritime sktcs of India in thc dcvclopmcnt and spread of aq~acull~ic in tlic country. For the year 1992-93, aboul 10,900 tonncs of shrimps wcrc produced from 9,500 hccbres of water sprcad arca in Andhra Pradcsh in farms supported by tlic subsidy technical assistance fro111 the Marine Products Export Development |
