dc.description.abstract | Present study was carried out between July 2011 to June 2012 from the middle stretch of the Ganga river at Allahabad, India. Samples were collected for the age structure and growth of Labeo calbasu. 0 to 8+ age structure were recorded in the present study. The study of the marginal rings on the scales of L. calbasu indicates their annual nature. The fish attained growth in 1+ 17.6 cm, 2+ 29.4 cm, 3+ 37.9 cm, 4+ 43.6 cm, 5+ 48.6 cm, 6+ 53.1 cm, 7+ 56.8 cm and 8+ 59.2 cm years of the life. The growth rate was observed 17.6, 11.89, 8.5, 5.7, 5.0, 4.5, 3.7 and 2.4 cm for one to eight age classes, respectively.
