| Abstract/Description: | Line x Tester analysis was done to study the combining ability in bitter gourd using seven lines, three testers and twenty one hybrids. Higher value of SCA as compared to GCA for all the characters except individual fruit weight indicated that these characters were governed by non-additive type of gene action. The parents IC50516 and VRBT-85 exhibited highly significant GCA estimates for almost all the characters except fruit diameter by the parent-VRBT-85. The cross NIC-1225 x DVBTG-1, Pusa Vishes x Pusa Do Mausami, VRBT-85 x DVBTG-2 and VRBT-24 x DVBTG-1 exhibited high SCA effects for total fruit yield per plant, average number of fruits per plant, and individual fruit weight can be exploited as desirable hybrids. |
