Abstract/Description: | Spine gourd (Momordica dioica Roxb. Ex. Willd) tubers were collected from Bundelkhand (U.P.), India from stony or hard soil were smaller in size while those collected from sandy or sandy loam soil were bigger, soft and bearing finger like structure. The size of tubers was also observed to be related with the age and sex of the plant. An eight year old plant was observed to possess a tuber weight of 2.0-2.5 kg. also, the female plants had bigger tubers as compared to male plants. A good variability was also observed for fruit size, shape and number. Older plants (10 to 25 years) were observed to possess higher number of fruits per plant than the younger ones. Differences were also observed for leaf and flower colour. Two types pf leaf colour, namely yellowish green and dark green were observed. Flower colour was found to be associated with sex of the plant. The female plants possessed yellow flowers while whitish yellow flowers were borne on male plants |
