Abstract/Description: Sixteen primer sequences, from three cyprinid fishes were tested to amplify homologous microsatellite loci in Gonoproktopterus curmuca. Six primers provided successful amplification. Total five loci were polymorphic. The suitability of the identified polymorphic loci in population structure analysis of G. curmuca was assessed. Genetic variation in specimens, collected from two different rivers, was examined. The mean observed heterozygosity was 0.293 and 0.471. Significant genic heterogeneity (P<0.05) between the two sample sets provided the evidence that the identified microsatellite markers are promising in analysing intraspecific divergence in G. curmuca [Acta Zoologica Sinica 50(4): 686 - 690,2004].
