Abstract/Description: Labeo dyocheilus or kali rohu was analysed for the first time to access variation at allozyme loci. Seventeen enzyme systems were studied that provided twenty eight scorable loci. Eight loci were found to be polymorphic. Samples from three different rivers viz. Satluj, Yamuna and Tons, were studied with identified allozyme loci to assess their suitability for genetic diversity analysis. The observed heterozygosity per locus varied from 0.0392 (Yamuna) to 0.0487 (Tons). The significant genotype heterogeneity was observed between the sample sets. The identified loci exhibited significant potential to determine population structure of L. dyocheilus across its natural range of distribution [Acta Zoologica Sinica 51(1):167–170, 2005].
