Abstract/Description: | The present study on virulence structure of F. oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici populations causing wilt disease of tomato revealed the presence of three races, Race 1, 2 and 3 in 15 states of India. Out of 56 isolates, 31, 17 and 6 were grouped into race 2, race 1 and race 3, respectively. Race 2 was distributed in the states of Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Gujarat while race 1 was found in Maharashtra and Odisha. However, both races 1 and 2 were present in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim and Tripura. Some of the isolates belonging to Varanasi, Dharwad and Raipur regions infected both the differential tomato varieties EC-538396 (MH-1) and EC-538397 (UC-82-L) indicating the existence of race 3 apart from race 1 and 2. Another differential tomato variety EC-538386 (LO-5490) was infected in multiple isolate sick soil further confirming the existence of race 3. Two isolates (Kr-F-3 and Mg-F-1) that infected only Assam Local variety indicated the presence of another race in India and may be designated as race 4 or a variant till further confirmation. |
