| Abstract/Description: | Investigations on the food and feeding habits will throw more light on the migratory and shoaling habits of pelagic species of fish, and it is particularly important for a species of high commercial value such as the mackerel. There are many references on the food and feeding habits of the mackerel and a list on the main contributions on this subject from the Indian and Other coasts of the Indo-Pacific area is available in the recent review, "Our current knowledge on the food and feeding habits of the Indian mackerel, Rastrelliger kanagurta (C)" by George (1962). At Karwar, Pradhan (1956) while dealing with the mackerel fishery of this place made certain observations on the food and feeding also. The present account deals briefly with the food and feeding habits of the mackerel at Karwar. |
