The intensity of spat settlement on the cultch was correlated with the abundance of veliger larvae in the plankton. Settlement of spat was found to a high during May and low during November when the salinity was high and low respectively in the lake. The salinity of the taka during the summer months seams to be favourable for the growth and settlement of the larvae.
