Abstract/Description: | Under the changing global environment, tropical tuber crops especially cassava play a key role in food, nutritional and employment security of the weaker sections of the global population owing to its ability to drought, high biological efficiency, ability to grow under marginal conditions, significant positive response to manures and fertilizers and the emerging demand for cassava starch in modern industrial markets. Studies conducted at CTCRI clearly established the significance of INM practices in enhancing tuber yield and improving tuber quality of these crops. Taking into account the significance of these 'new generation crops' in the present millennium, to meet the rising demand for food and feed with low inputs and resources especially fertilizers, new research arenas like identification of nutrient use efficient genotypes, soil fertility management for intensive cropping systems involving high input demanding tuber crops with systematic approach in fertilizer use to reduce the cost of cultivation and enhance the net income of farmers are to be undertaken. |
