Abstract/Description: | Water s a basic human need. Having access to safe and sufficient water and sanita ion are now recognized as basic human rights. In coming years the populatio in urban areas will increase tremendously and there will be competin 1 demands for domestic, commercial, "industrial and peri-urban agriculture on fresh water. In order to meet the soaring demand there will be enormous pressure on freshwater resources. The management of water resources is very important for the development of human society. For effecti ve managem nt of water resources there is need to understand how much water is availab e and where it is available. This is achieved by undertaking a resource assessme it of water bodies. National authorities and resource managers need complete information on which to base their projections and decision-making. To meet he demand from various sectors like fisheries, agriculture, industry and dom .stic use an integrated approach may be devised including all the stakehol ers for economic and social development. |
