Abstract/Description: | An impact study was carried out to know the extent of productivity increase after the adoption of pen culture technology for in situ seed production in four wetlands located in three districts of Asom. An impact pathway was designed to study the impact of technology intervention on the production and productivity of floodplain wetlands. Annual fish production of the wetlands increased significantly after the adoption of pen culture technology for stocking of fingerlings raised in situ. Fish productivity increased from 300, 417, 425, and 125 kg/ha/yr to 1050, 1030, 850 and 415 kg/ ha/yr in Haribhanga, Damal, Raumari and Puthimari wetlands, respectively. The benefit cost ratio of fish production in wetland ranged between 2.85 and 3.94 for the selected wetlands. The weighted average compound annual growth rate of studied wetlands for the period from 2002–03 and 2007–08 was 25.39%. The direct impact of adoption of pen culture technology increased fish production and productivity of the selected wetlands of Asom, under participatory management |
