Description |
The effective and efficient isolates of Rhizobium of Sesbania bispinosa were studied from the rice-growing areas of Tamil Nadu, India. From ~ 661 samples, Rhizobium was isolated and tested for nitrogenase activity by acetylene reduction techniques. The most positive isolate (on the basis of acetylene reduction) number DMB R001 was selected. This strain was studied in detail for its ability to utilize carbon sources, antibiotic resistance pattern and various climatic factors including different pH, temperature and salinity. The observations showed that the strain grew well in pH range of 4-11, salinity range of 0-600 millimhos (3% of NaCl) and a temperature range of 28-44 °C. It was resistant to antibiotics Chr, Kr, Pr, Ar and Nalr. It grew well at different carbon substitutes and generation times varying from 1.9-3.2 h depending on carbon sources
