Description Food security, which essentially means food production, its affordability, accessibility and nutrition, is a critical concern worldwide, especially against a background of rapid population growth. In most developing countries it is the resource poor small-scale farmers who contribute substantially to food production. We cannot achieve food security without improving agricultural productivity and sustainability in the small-scale sector. To achieve this, we need to empower these farmers with 'appropriate technology'.
