Description |
Filtrates of root exudates, obtained by suspending 50 germinated seeds of each of 2 cultivars so that their radicles only were in 50 ml of distilled water, were (1) applied at the rate of 0.2 ml to each glass slides and (2) incorporated at the rate of 50 ml in 50 ml of potato dextrose agar, prior to pouring into Petri dishes. Conidia of F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceri race 1 showed 9% germination on slides in presence of exudate filtrate from CPS1, with resistance to the fungus, compared with 95.4% germination in presence of exudate filtrate from susceptible JG62. Mycelial growth was similarly affected: 29 mm diam. colonies (after 10 days) on CPA1 filtrate agar vs. 89 mm on JG62 agar
