Description Given the critical role of agriculture to the local economy and the centrality of smallholder farmers in
agriculture, encouraging entrepreneurship in agriculture with focus on smallholder farmers would help
the sector cope with the rapidly changing global environment. But for such transformation to happen in
the sector, there needs enabling conditions that help nurture an entrepreneurial ecosystem which can help
in making farmers take risks and operate agribusiness start-ups but can also enable other stakeholders of
the sector to play a bigger and eff ective role that will enhance the development of the sector. The chapter
focuses on the need for this transformation from within, the expected challenges and the way forward.
