Description |
In 2011, the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) setup six agribusiness incubators in five countries in Africa through its Universities, Business and Research for Agricultural INnovation (UniBRAIN) project. These value-chain based incubators focus on promoting entrepreneurial initiatives in their respective domain among farmers, youth and women thereby enabling the latter group to access the chain and derive its benefits. The incubators also provide access to improved agro-technologies from different universities and research institutions which are partnering with them under this project. This compendium comprises of diverse set of 26 ready-for-commercialization technologies sourced from the partners and represents different sectors such as crop production and improvement (sorghum, banana, cassava and vegetables), livestock and poultry, food and feed processing, value-addition protocols etc. Interested entrepreneurs in Africa can access these technologies through the incubators. (The Report released at the First African Agribusiness Incubation Conference held at Nairobi, Kenya during 28-30 September 2015). |
