Abstract | The performance of the extrapolation algorithm for transmitting boundaries used in half-space idealization is examined for the case of vertical loads having non-vanishing time average. The problem of suddenly applied distributed vertical surface load over a circular area is considered. Homogeneous and two-layered media have been studied. The results show that the displacements attain peak values and then tend towards the static values with time. This is a distinct advantage when compared with the reported performance of other models such as the viscous dashpot model and superposition boundaries wherein the displacements after reaching peak values do not tend towards the static values. |
